My beloved and the wind

The light penetrated through the clouds,
I watched fireflies entangled in a dance.
The blue Jay jeered attempting
to distract me
and the hawks.
The wind silently
caressed my face.
If tomorrow does not come
and I don't lay in your arms once again
or roll in the sand,
drink the moon on an evening of poetry
and love
lights twinkling in our eyes.
If tomorrow does not come,
and I don't touch the dew on the grass
at daybreak,
or I may not touch the edges of a book
cutting my skin and soul
as I linger and kiss your neck,
if tomorrow does not come
I would have had enough
because you had loved me.

  4. Such lovefilled poem.. and yet I think I read this as being written under the shadow of a threat... when just maybe there is no tomorrow left.

  5. If there is a tomorrow or not, this is the voice of a satiated lover. The feelings are passionately expressed. Nice.

  10. Tender is the night, they say, & so is your poem. It kind of sneaks up on you; perhaps because of the hint of dread "if tomorrow never comes". Gosh, the truth not of us know for sure if we will make it into a new day, so kudos to you & your poetics for instructing us to live fully in the Now.

  14. this left me feeling warm - and it reminded me of the fireflies rising over the cornfields outside of Toledo at dusk - ten-thousand sparkles in the sunset.

  15. that repetition of "if tomorrow doesn't come" was like an engine that drove me on, ever increasing my curiosity of "what if it doesn't come?" Your conclusion was lovely...you will be satisfied, because you have been loved...and yet, I'm sure you hope that with a love like you've described, that tomorrow does come, so that you can enjoy that love even more.
