One Day

http://onestoppoetry.com/

One day we'll be gray,
living on an island.
Our children,
our grandchildren will come,
and share our love for the ocean.
A love for all the peace it offers.
You will tell them about the acrobatics of the Tarpon,
how he got away from me one summer day,
in the Florida keys.
When the water was crystal blue,
when I was young.
You will tell them
how I didn't rest,
until I caught another.
How my spirits soared,
my hands trembled,
as I kissed him goodbye.
There will be laughter,
good food and wine.
One day we will
be gray,
you and I.

  2. Ah, beautiful description of enjoyable "golden years." Your lines also have a winsome tone, which fits the ocean setting very well.

  7. A story of time, love, and tender humanity...showing that sweetness does not falter with age, nor should we let the joy of living. The gray comes - but so do many other joys, as others have gone before... A lovely tale, at all that.

  17. Memories become more real as the years pass; a peaceful island is a lovely image.

  18. And even when the gray comes, those memories can preserve in us such a youthful, energetic perspective that keeps us from seeing ourselves as old. A wonderful poem.

  21. As someone with some of that graying hair - and getting close in age to that couple in the photo -- I identify with this poem. Nice one.
