Missing Mom

My drawer holds your scarves,
my drawer holds your memories.
I touch them,
all the colors delight me,
like the kaleidoscope of our life.
They are like a summer day,
they are like dancing in the fresh cut grass.
Silk, cotton, soft,
magical.
It's a melody you sang,
it's love that you gave,
it's a part of you.
I long to touch you,
I long to hear your voice.
You are gone,
but I feel you
with me,
beside me,
wrapping me softly in your arms.

  3. My mother recently gave me a photo of herself when she was 17 - when she graduated from high school. She's 87 now - but that girl of 17 is still there. Lovely poem, Ayala, and it aches with the good kind of ache.
