Hypocrisy

Evil can wear a charming smile,
and speak delicious words,
that feel like rose petals.
Hypocrisy is dressed in fine disguise,
in many forms.
You point your finger,
lecture on your mind,
moral values anyone?
Have you forgotten
the skeletons in your closet.
Dusty since you abandoned them.
They come out,
while you sleep ,
dreaming of the life you lived.
Let your words be silent as the skeletons
begin to stir and dance.
Rise above the insecurity of your soul.
Speak the truth, for once.
Resist,
discuss,
be who you are meant to be.

  1. This is a powerful indictment, Ayala. Especially effective to me is your last line: "Be who you are meant to be."

  2. This little poem made me think deep several times. It really did touch home. The skeletons in my closet DO come out in my dreams. How did you know?!?!

  3. Very well done! I immediately thought of the presidential campaigns gearing up.

  4. tell it straight...i like the direct talk in this ...and rather not fond of hypocrisy...

  5. Ooooohhhh! Say it clear and loud!

  6. A strong little message for us all. Powerful ending line - and I much agree. Too often we get caught up in the images the world hides behind...we need to rise above our fear, above the willed ignorance, and bear our souls up with us...

  7. I agree, everyone (me included) deserves to examine the differences between their beliefs and actions. Thank you for pointing this out in poem form. :D

  9. Love how you skipped the bull
And told it with the punches you pull
People should rise above the bs
    And this disguise mess
    Enjoyed this one alot
    Really great one shot

  12. There are so many in public life I'd like to say this to--and who, really can afford the luxury to lecture another--yet so many seem to have no problem. Excellent, well-written and well-developed piece.

  13. Can't I just be who I'm meant to be AND put another lock on the closet?

  14. Good reminders.

  15. oh, this is fantastic. I love the direct, tell-it-like-it-is feel. None of us are free from weakness, free from fault, but it seems easier for some to pretend they are free from the dark sides we all have.

  16. Too many people forget their own skeletons but are quick to speak out and judge others. Great points so well written. Words to remember and live by.

  19. Preach it sister! This poem feels like Church (the really good kind); how it builds in intensity as it goes along.

  20. These words, incapsulated in this short poem smack with truth.

Something we all need to investigate within our own hearts and behaviors.

Right now....I am so sickened with politics and politicians, who abuse decency, and also the good laws of our land....(Dominique Strauss Kahn comes to mind) and pleads 'innocent'...when the facts would say other...

How can we look at ourselves in the morning in the mirror? Hyprocrisy eats from within.

    Great poem, Ayala.

  29. So true, ayala. Evil has to wear as attractive a face as it can or else everyone would be warned. It's hard sometimes to see past the mask.

  32. I am me...all I can be, some will take it, some will leave! :) Thought provoking write, forcing us to point OUR OWN fingers towards ourselves and question who we are and what it is we stand for. Much easier to point at someone else...too easy by times! Great write that was much appreciated. :)

  34. Excellent poem with a perfect sentiment. I would almost rather be anything than a hypocrite.

I also like that first image, by the way.

  35. yep - it's best to address it directly and straight...as you did...sometimes though i guess we all tend to forget the skeletons in our closets..

  37. Thank you Patricia. The world needs to look at themselves before pointing at anyone else.....

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ha, ha, Patricia ... You can put another lock and keep those skeletons away...

  39. Thank you, Lori.....that is the truth.

  47. One word: Arnold. Another word: disgust. It's not nearly as eloquent as your poem, but I'm feeling the same emotions!

  48. Forget the skeletons? Nope. They're that unforgettable! Straight up delivery.. I like it!

  49. A perceptive and authentic write, which has the added dimension of truth. Great job.

  52. Had to read this, go away...come back and read it again. Hypocrisy worries me, cause I've taken so long in life to know myself and let myself be free from others' expectations. I strive for genuine, but, I'm sure still miss the mark. Really love the way you get me/us thinking!

  56. YES! For some it's so difficult to keep those skeletons from dancing around in someone else's business!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yes,Lolamouse...it seems that we all know them!

    ReplyDelete
  58. It felt as if I had already read this one.. I know now- that's because we all have demons in us!
Talking of skeletons.. well, I know many people who love to snap a tendon just when I am off guard..
BOOMERANG! What goes around, comes around!

All my skellies are "displayed" on my blog already! Beneath our smiles are indeed some bones..

    well said- hugs xxxxx
