Gratitude

Words on trees
pretending to be leaves,
swaying in the breeze,
floating in the universe.
Kindness,
hope,
inspiration,
love,
grace,
faith,
peace,
words to live by.
I choose you to be
 the one for me,
you whisper in my ear,
when I awaken from my sleep.
I hear your voice
in my dreams.
I have walked with you,
through our long journey.
You found me in a dark place,
and you lifted me,
you pulled thorns out of my soul.
We choose words,
to walk with them,
a word to define the year.
A new day,
a new page,
we slice to pieces,
to savor,
to squander away.
We choose a word to stuff
into the pockets of our hearts,
to fly on the wings of our spirit.
Gratitude,
you are my constant companion.
I whisper your
name a thousand times.
I dance with you in the rain,
you embrace me when I weep.
You are simple and complicated,
you are fear, you are love.
You are tears, you are laughter.
I carry you as
you carry me.

  2. Another ayala original that will make it into my favorites journal. As I'm praying to choose my word (yes, still...) I will read and re-read. This is wonderful. 'i carry you, as you carry me' - that's it!!

  10. Gratitude definitely is a good word to carry with you throughout the day, throughout the year. I especially like

    "I carry you
    as you carry me."

That definitely is befitting of gratitude.

  11. One of my favorite words! The kids and I play the gratitude game. We take turns saying "I'm grateful for..." The one who repeats something already said is out, till one person is left. My kids think it's a "real" game, not just something Mom made up. :D

  12. Gratitude is a state of mind that takes lots of practice... but when you have it, there's nothing like the "high" you get from it.

  14. So lovely... I think gratitude is one of the most difficult emotions to maintain, we take things for granted so easily.
This will serve as a wonderful reminder throughout the year!

  26. This is lovely ayala! The poem and more so the subject matter! It gets one aware of the goodness of true love which many crave for. Sadly many may not savor such sweetness more through fault of their own! Nicely!

  48. I see a sincere poem, written solely with the heart, fascinating are the words used. A poem that remains in the heart of the reader.
