Rome Forever

Rome,
you seduced me
at your gates.
Your outstretched arms embraced me.
I drank your beauty as I dipped in your fountains,
your taste lingered on my lips,
and in my being.
Your eyelashes caressed me,
your eyes followed me as I walked
down cobbled streets,
delighting in the moment.
Long ago, Da Vinci,
Michelangelo,
have stood here.
The wind lifted my white skirt,
and kissed my bruises.
My knees weak to your beauty.
When I fell asleep you sang me a lullaby,
I can hear it still,
calling my name from far away,
waiting for the day I return.

Meet us here, http://dversepoets.com/ where we share our thoughts and our heart.

  1. Ah1 Such sweetness of memory. No, I've not been to Rome, but have some of my own--with which I identify yours.
Thank you, for expression of your 'feelings'. We (especially us men), are so fearful of wearing those feelings ahead of our facade.
    PEACE it is!

  24. This was so lovely, ayala. And synchronicity at play - my daughter and I were just talking about Rome and looking through her photos again. She was there two years ago and she says she can't wait to go back. I'm going to share this with her. :)

  27. Funny how Italy gets into your bones. It isn't Rome but the smaller towns we visited and Venice that haunt me though.

  28. Makes one yearn for it. Think you could use a stanza-break or two to allow for more accessibility/readability, give the piece more body, emphasise those places that fall before and after the breaks, etc. Whatever, fine piece

  31. Oh, I miss travelling in Europe. Rome gently assaults all the senses ~ and you've expressed that so well. I love to be in places where great artists and leaders have actually stood - the history so rich. I hope Rome's waiting for my return too!

  32. Oh, I knew as soon as I saw the title I shouldn't read this! I've had the itch to be traveling for a while now, and this is one of my favorite places in the world. :)
