Mask The Pain

No rhyme,
no reason.
The young man claims to be Tupac ,
he claims to be Jesus.
Eleven to seven,
a third of a life,
on the night shift.
No rhyme,
no reason,
the snakes followed him,
to the Emergency Room.
There is no judgment ,
only acceptance.
Mental illness does not discriminate .
It's an equal opportunity lover.

  2. You paint such vivid and real characters with words.

Yes, mental illness doesn't discriminate...sadly, though, a lot of those who suffer from it are discriminated against.

    This is heartbreaking, ayala.

  6. So if I rhyme with no reason, does that mean I'm ill?..haha

Really though yeah seen it up close more than I ever wanted too, so true it does not discriminate.

  9. Unfortunately that is true. Mental illness does not discriminate, but I always wonder what it is they see...is it the reality we don't see?

    Nicely done.

  14. This is chilling but so well done. You give voice to those who march to a different drummer. Lest we forget...how close we all are to madness and despair, at least...at times.

  15. Mental illness is deceptive as physically it doesn't show. It's frightening when violence is involved. Worst when we can't assign blame except shout 'insanity'. Great write!

  16. Ayala, The details give life to this. So much in so few words. It's great to see someone taking on this real life scenario. Keep up your fine work!

  38. The nuances of mental illness are sometimes unrecognizable. Blending in while knowing something isn't right is a hard life to live. Succinct poetry with powerful message Ayala.
