Broken Wing

http://dversepoets.com/

My wing is broken,
my voice still clear,
but I can't fly.
The light floods the room,
with honey tasting sun,
but it's dark.
Light dances while,
I hide in the shade.
The past is my companion,
whispering in my ear.
My legs move,
but they can't run.
Tears trickle inside,
like a broken faucet.
Outside I am blank,
until I hear sweet footsteps,
"mama", and then I smile,
even though my wing is broken.

  4. Oh Ayala, this feels so connected to my poem today...so beautiful my dear. Thank you for checking in on me these past few weeks while I've been so low energy to connect with friends.

  7. Sometimes, I think we all feel a bit like this, but it's lovely when we get a pick-me-up from a loved one, friend or even stranger.
    "honey tasting sun"...nice visual.

  13. Nothing makes me smile more than seeing someone smile through their own pain, to make that effort. My mom always makes me smile, especially when I'm hurting. Courageous, beautiful share this evening...thank you!

  18. Such a lovely, lovely poem...with sadness like a vein through it, relieved with the feet of the child.

  19. This is exquisite for its flowing gentleness, it's obvious pain and yet love is able to bring a smile.
    Pain is so debilitating.

  31. oh, I know this scene. It is so hard to be strong for those who depend on us when we are hurting. However, I think it is a blessing in disguise for I would get lost in my own pain and self-pity if it weren't for those little ones coming in and saying "mama"

  52. This takes my breath away - I've been back to read it several times. Stunning use of light images to contrast with the inner darkness. I was crying as I drove around doing some errands the other day...and I thought about how much I push myself and how I show my self to be 'fine' to those around, but how those silent tears live close to the surface. Anyhow - this really captures that dichotomy.

  53. Broken -- this describes each of us to a degree, doesn't it? Amazing how much love there still is that flows from one broken-ness to another....

  54. Adrienne, this is how I felt the other day. I understand you. Sometimes things are just hard and sometimes we are strong in front of those we love because we don't want to worry them. I understand .

  55. Belinda, I love your comment because it does describe each of us to a degree. I think all of us find ourselves feeling this way, at one time or another. And it is amazing how much love there still is that fllows from one broken-ness to another.
