Joyful Sound

Yesterday I wrote a poem about a Clarinet and it's journey to a music school in Knoxville. I was inspired to write it after donating a clarinet to the school. I was watching the premiere of a show called Secret Millionaire. The show featured Dani Johnson , she is a millionaire that was homeless at age 21. The show touched me as they ventured into an impoverished community to seek those that make a difference with their charity. One of them was The Joy of Music school. The school changes the life of children. Financially disadvantaged young people are exposed to new opportunities of success. The volunteers clean instruments, they give music lessons and they mentor. I was so touched. I called the school and asked if I could donate a clarinet that I inherited. I spoke to Barbara which was appreciative and I explained to her that she doesn't understand how happy I feel that I can help them. She said that people sometimes are moved into action but then life gets in the way and they forget. Some people have instruments that they want to send to the school but they can't pay for the shipping. Barbara was excited to share with me that one of the young students just received a scholarship to go to a special prestigious school for the summer. It's a school Josh Grobin attended. She also told me that a man that watched the show is sending his trombone with a fifty dollar check to cover for a new mouthpiece. I was so delighted that she was sharing all those good deed stories with me. I felt like I was floating. She even told me about an elderly lady that had preformed during the depression with other young ladies, they played the Ukulele and now the instrument was being donated to the school. All I can say is that I was so excited. I decided to write a post about it just in case some of you can donate to the school an instrument that you are not using. The more people hear about this school the more help they can receive. The joyful sound of giving back .
