The Sun

The darkest hours

will unravel the light.

Waiting,

questioning

the conundrum.

Disentanglement

will be late coming.

In Mariupol, the smoke

is rising.

The land is ravaged.

In the steel factory

the girl has sheltered

52 days

underground.

All she wants is to

see the sun.

  1. This poem really moves me. I am thinking of Mariupol and the people trapped in that basement. No hope of humanitarian corridors with Russia. Unbelievable, the way they behave.

  3. Yep, very very tough in Mariupol, more than very. There is a sliver of hope some will be able to get out but the Russians want them in camps in Russia. Of course that is not where people want to go...Odesa will be next with this we think....(where I am) very good verse, brings it home....

  4. This is all the more powerful for being simply and clearly written, stripped of the clutter of politics and media buzzwords. A sad truth from which we should not avert our eyes.

  5. Indeed... and I fear that when we learn what has really happened in Mariupol... we will see what the war really is. I fear that children will be stolen and adopted and turned into obedient Russian Patriots.
