The color of my blood

The shape of my eyes,
the sound of my voice,
the shade of my skin,
my sexuality.
The color of my blood
the same
as yours.
If you saw the light in my eyes,
if you saw my mother's tears,
if you felt her fears,
grief engraved on her skin.
Would you have yanked me
like a weed from the
garden of life,
Would you have shattered
me in pieces
 leaving me
to bleed out in the dark.
Ideologies differ,
dreams unalike,
my diversity
makes me
unique,
beautiful,
majestic,
a beacon in the fiber
of humanity.
The shape of my eyes,
the sound of my voice,
the shade of my skin,
my sexuality.
The color of my blood
same as yours.

This poem is dedicated to all the victims and survivors of Orlando           <3 br="">

  6. We are all alike -- it's a promise I've held onto since I was a little kid. Read it in a book and believed it. Beautiful poem that helps reaffirm that truth. Beautiful and sad.

  8. Great thought provoking poem. Yes we are all the same when we are broken down to the basic level.

  9. We are all unique, but with the same basic needs and desires. Why should some be made to bleed? This is sad on so many levels. Wishing you peace...

  12. That need to belong, the fear of everything different and unwelcoming, the lopsided social tapestry.. how I wish we could fix our lives, our minds. Beautifully written.

  14. Yes. Truth and beauty in these words. We are much more alike than we are different and diversity is wonderful. I don't understand why some folks don't celebrate it.

  18. Very visceral, very true ... a worldly-wise piece, wonderfully rendered

  19. Humanity has taken bestiality to the limits by judging others by the colour of their skin. I am wrong of course for I am denigrating all other living things. It seem that irrational hate in inherent in some form in humans alone.

  20. When will people realize that diversity is necessary for all of life to continue? Like your poem, its meditative feel, and most of all its message,

  24. I like how you express this. If we only saw our commonalites, our red blood, and appreciated all the unique ways in which life lives, what a world this could be. Great write Ayala. Nice to visit you again.
