My Angel

The morning after Halloween ,
the leaves were scattered
on the ground,
the air was crisp,
the sky was a glorious blue.
I caught a glimpse
of Bella,
My heart stopped for a moment,
my thoughts caught up .
The beautiful Shorthaired Pointer,
walked with grace,
intention,
and beauty.
My heart longed for
you Angel.
Your brown eyes filled with
promise and pure love.
Your floppy ears swung
as you chased lizards and butterflies.
You ran in the fields,
you danced,
you looked for the light in our eyes
and you listened to our tender words.
You swam on endless summer days,
the sound of cicadas in the air,
you watched the fish swim by.
Our heart full of your memory
the life we shared.
Forever you will be remembered
and loved.

Our dear German Shorthaired Pointer passed away on February 2010. She was an amazing dog and a part of our family. I wrote this poem after seeing Bella, a neighborhood dog. Every time I see her my heart stops for a second because for that second I think it's Angel. Please join us here http://dversepoets.com/ where we share our thoughts and our hearts.

  1. oh it's tough to lose a dog-friend and companion... my boss hang up the phone the other day in the office, looked at me and said "the dog is dead" and he's really a strong man but i felt how tough it was for him....

  2. I have never had a pet, Ayala, but one of my good friends lost her cat this past year and her pain was so palpable. She lost a friend and someone who loved her unconditionally. Sorry for your loss.

  3. Soon will be four years since--and many of us felt your anguish, the pain. I hava lost pets--family-member-types. I liken the horrible experience to that of a parent who loses a child. They also bear a frequently painful, non-healing wound. "Why did I not go first, Lord?"
    PEACE, Ayala.

  5. I know how you feel. I miss and still grieve all my canine friends that have been in my family. How can we not keep our beloved dogs in our hearts?

  7. Growing up we never had dogs... or any pets. My husbands family did. The kids want one... but I'm not ready to add another addition to our family (and due to our lease we can't...) but I can only imagine the connection and the love you hold for your pup. xoxo

  9. Oh, how I can understand this. I am sure seeing Bella, a reminder of your own loss, is both a joy and sadness for you. Dogs are part of a family, and I understand how you would still miss Angel. Even more after seeing Bella. Love is love!

  10. This is a beautiful tribute to your dog Ayala! After my own Golden Retriever some dogs reminded me of him. Losing a loved pet can be very hard.

  19. Awww, I know the pain you feel. We lost our beautiful German Shepherd, Riley, just a few months ago. There's a neighborhood dog who I've never seen, but he barks sometimes...in the evenings, and, like you, my heart lurches because it sounds just like our beloved Riley. It's so hard to lose a four-legged family member. They carry our love and our secrets.

  31. This is wonderful. Made me cry, for sure. I still stop & stare when I see a smaller black lab even though mine's been gone for over 10 years. :-)

  32. What a beautiful tribute. My cat Persia died 2 yrs ago, and I still have her childhood playmate Isaiah., a tabby, who is still healthy and loving and assertive-but every day I wonder how long he will be around.
