The Peace We Make

A dove flies down from the heavens,
she sings a song of peace to those who listen.
Forget the games that people play,
men with power in their ivory towers.
They have forgotten how to dream,
how to inspire.
They have their hearts under lock and key,
burdened by the harsh reality.
They sweep the issues under the rug,
while making false statements,
and empty promises.
People wait for answers that never come,
they wait for the substance truth carries.
Open your palm and feed the world,
open your arms and shelter.
Evil flourishes when there is no action,
evil flourishes when no one is listening to the cries.
When you look the other way,
when your belly is full,
it's hard to imagine one that's empty.
Crimes against humanity take place every day,
while we wait and sleep on it.
The dove carries a twig in her beak,
an olive branch.
The dove dreams of peace and so do I.

  2. Hey Girl...I write the word "PEACE!" at the end of almost every comment...and one day it will also be in my head and heart.

Individual 'peace' in those deepest recesses

    Collective 'peace' in every home-life

    WORLD PEACE for all, forever.

(Did you know I just prayed while writing that?)

--I came here from your FB account and I really like this poem "The Peace We Make" and agree it takes action! thank you, Ayala!
    PEACE!

'Verification' word, ya gotta believe this, is "pauxinem" (almost sounds like 'peace' or PAX!

  5. One by one and so painfully slowly, many are waking up to the fact that money has become the new God and so many now are trying to make it known that they've had enough. Occupy this and that is trying so hard to make a statement but, when it comes to money and making more of it, that's all a lot of people see in their eyes. Even profit to be had from war for the arms dealers.
Very nicely said, be a wonderful miracle if it all were to come true.

I can think of at least one country whose story fits perfectly to the lines quoted above. Your poem speaks loudly and we must listen. Thanks for sharing, Ayala.

  7. this poem is full of truth... as people, we need to spread more positive energy, but most of the time it seems we're mainly concerned about shedding light on the negative...

  8. Most well said, ayala. Seems all we hear any more is noise and lies--hard to even tell the difference. Thanks for speaking what needs to be said.

  10. So do I :)
I agree with every word you've written.

"Evil flourishes when there is no action,
evil flourishes when no one is listening to the cries.
When you look the other way,
    when your belly is full,
it's hard to imagine one that's empty."

Apathy is dangerous, sometimes, comfort can blind too.

'Evil flourishes when there is no action,

  26. It is a hard world we live in, made harder still by people's attempts to hide from conscience, to mire themselves in the neutral void and pretend they see nothing. But one can hope, and one can dream...might we share the visions of the dove and you alike, made flesh, one day.

  27. We must be kindred spirits, Ayala, because I still have dreams of peace, too, even after knowing the evil that humans are capable of.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think emeraldcity says it so well, we must encounter the world with open hearts so that there's a chance for justice and human dignity.
