Speak Truth

Thoughts scattered like visions in dreams.
Hard questions that are buried deep,
past errors suffocated and silenced away.
Politicians guilt us into feeling dirty,
throwing crumbs on our paper plates,
a bitter morsel hard to swallow.
A detour, confusion, and more conversation.
Speak up, speak loud the truth,
is the only communication we desire.

  5. Wow! I love these concrete images that give this piece so much weight - feeling dirty - paper plates. I like the feel of the way you put these words down on paper. Love it!

  6. Speaking our truth is such a powerful action and we should celebrate our right to do so in this country! Thanks for the reminder.

  7. It's not the volume we're after but rather the content.

Love the crumbs on our paper plates line.

  9. Very strong. I like the line 'past errors suffocated and silenced away' Sad that errors can turn us into liars instead of learners, and people even more determiined to speak the truth.

  10. Mel, I am not certain what the name of the statue is. I saw it by the Louvre in Paris. :)

  13. Belinda, yes, yes, yes. We just want them to speak the truth some of the time, because you know that they won't speak the truth all of the time.

  16. I love what Belinda said about the content: we often block out the one who screams the loudest, irrespective of what they're saying

  23. I do think hard questions are buried deep (and worth excavating).

  24. Oooooh. This imagery works well for me with more than just politics. I want the truth that is buried deep. Great write.

  25. It's scary to think of excavating the words (unspoken by us, spoken by others) that lie next to our core. Perhaps it'd be cathartic to unleash them and set them free ... but who's brave enough to try it?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Lauren, definitely worth excavating!

  27. Kelly, they say the truth shall set you free :)

  28. Oh, the truth...seems to be beyond reach so often these days as it's covered in so much slime...

    Powerful, ayala. I loved it.

  29. Thank you, Talon. I like what you say here, the truth is covered up with slime.
