My Love
The pigeons ate seeds and bread crumbs
in Trafalgar square.
The trail we left behind while bronze lions
stood witness and guarded us,
as I sheltered you from the storms in our life.
Nelson's statue overlooking the square winked at me
as I watched him with admiration.
Life not a rehearsal grandma said,
we took in the moment as we inhaled our breath.
I stood in a dark place,
unwilling to surrender.
Fearless when it came to me,
afraid when it came to you.
London poetic in spirit,
as we listened with our hearts,
wide and open.
I wanted to live for you, my child.
Move the earth and the clouds for you.
Heal you with love,
lift you with laughter.
I hope you remember
for it was long ago,
I carry it all in my heart.
Meet us here, http://dversepoets.com/ where we share our thoughts and our hearts.
Sure the feeling still resides, nice one!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pat.
Deletesmiles...this just leaves me with all kinds of warm feelings...little moments shared, hopes and dreams of what is to be, the desire to keep a child safe and the tension between that and living life...loved it ayala
ReplyDeleteThank you, Brian. I was remembering...
DeleteI felt, through your words, a child being protected under the umbrella of her grandmother. Well done Ayala.
ReplyDeleteI wrote this for my son...the reference to grandma was about my mom..she believed in living the moment.
Deletei love the blending of the city with the love for a child...the shared moments, the wanting to keep them safe and let them fly..beautiful and def. felt..
ReplyDeleteThank you, Claudia. The desire to keep them safe always remains....
DeleteThere's that warm fuzzy feeling I get when I read your work. You have such a natural way of expressing, a true joy to read your work, always! Your final seven lines steal my breath and pause my heart. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Natasha. I appreciate your thoughts here.
DeleteLovely. There is so much to fear in a big city, but also much to enjoy too. I love how you protect but are not too protective that you don't allow the child to share in the magic of your surroundings. There is a lot of sadness in this, between the lines.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bren. Well observed there is sadness between the lines...
DeleteLondon love and bread crumbs. I feel like I just stepped off the curb in the city.
ReplyDeleteLondon so beautiful!
DeleteI admire the way you've linked the two protectors here: Nelson and you. You extract from the legend the sense of heroism that levels itself in everyday duty. And with the usual style and grace. Very nicely done.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Steve. I love your thoughts on this :)
DeleteBeautiful, Ayala! I can feel the LOVE! ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bradley !
DeleteA soothing and warm feeling ~ beautiful share Ayala ~
ReplyDeleteThank you, Grace. :)
Delete"Paris, is always a good idea" said Sabrina. But I agree with you London and its memories, its poetries, its destinies we carry forever in our heart. Who can deny its power. London, for me far more than Rome, is the eternal city. It is the Capital of my language.
ReplyDeleteLondon was my dad's favorite place and it is one of mine :)
DeleteThis poem is filled with love and light, and the last line leavens it with just that pinch of sadness that makes it real. Loved it, ayala.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joy.

DeleteA very moving testament to the overwhelming feelings of protection and love we project onto our children. Fine job.
ReplyDeleteThank you, James.
DeleteEmotional & heartfelt- all the things poetry should be. Attaching memory and significance to times and places- and in this case associating it with the feelings of love and protection towards a child....powerfully put & I enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stu. Glad you enjoyed it.
Deletea mother's love definitely shines through this one. beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sheila. :)
DeleteI love the use of your specific memory to connect us to the broader strokes of maternal love. I can see myself if a million different places...watching them, participating with them, and filled up with all the hopes and fears that come with the role. This took me right to that place - the inside place where it's all stored...such a good piece!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Adrienne...so moved that it took you there..a mother's love, there is nothing like it. :)
DeleteYour poems always take me on a voyage. This one brings me to both a physical and an emotional place. Wonderful piece.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Chris. Glad you enjoyed it.
Deletethis is bursting with affection. moving heaven and clouds, listen with hearts... gimme shelter, i love it.

DeleteYou share a sadness of memory that harbors so much joy of the moment. Memory can embody that joy once again, in such words as these to singbthe hour and awe that never wither away.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Charles...well said :)
DeleteNice write Ayala! Glad I stopped in
ReplyDeleteThank you, Luke. Glad you stopped by :)
DeleteThe Trafalgar Sq pigeons have always conjured a mystic around them. When we were there the kids just love to have them perched on the heads and shoulders. We were taken aback when someone in the crowd warned of diseases carrying birds when our kids were proudly having them perched on their heads. It was a danger that became a reality when the H1N1 bird flu epidemic happened sometime ago. I dread to think how close we were.
ReplyDeleteHank
Thank you, Hank. I appreciate you sharing your experience you had. I imagine how nervous you were when you found out about the bird flu.
DeleteVery poignant and emotional piece. I remember visiting Trafalgar Square. I can see why the place brings forth such emotion.
