Outside My Heart
Tonight the sky is in it's glory,
I feel like I am a part of a Van Gogh painting.
The colors embrace me,
bathe me.
I lie down with the stars,
red, blue, purpule.
I roll from one to another,
the night sky my playground,
and then I think of you.
Dad, can you see the moon
from your window in heaven ?
Do the stars kiss you goodnight ?
Do you ask the moon to come to my door
and wait until I smile,
the way I smiled when you gently kissed
my eyelids at night.
I long for those kisses,
I long to hear your voice,
my soul longs for your embrace.
The moon knows my longing,
she whispers in my ear,
I close my eyes while the moon watches
me fall asleep.
http://dversepoets.com/ Join us where we share our thoughts and our hearts. The painting above is Starry Night by Van Gogh. It's one of my favorite paintings. This poem is for my dad, the man that fed me love and art.
If you close your eyes and really 'think' of his kisses, you will still feel them, really.
ReplyDeleteYou always write such real things in such a gentle, warm and loving way. It's always a pleasure to read you.

DeleteAyala,
ReplyDeleteIsn't it interesting how artwork inspires other artwork. As if all artists drink from the same well. Very nicely done here!!

Your voice, your message surely heard. Keep writing, keep remembering.

DeleteThis is so poignant. I agree...the night sky seems to speak to us of the ones we've lost. About a week ago I sent you interview questions. Just want to make sure you got them. (No hurry, though).
ReplyDeleteThank you, Victoria. I did receive it...I am sorry..a busy couple of weeks.
DeleteWell, this is just lovely. The connection to painting and your Dad. The kisses on the eyelids are visual kisses as well as remembrances. k>
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karin :)
Deletejust got off the phone with my dad - we're headed to visit him this weekend. So grateful I still can, still have him with me. We're planning to visit an impressionist museum, so I'll carry your words with me as I look at the paintings. Your words paint a beautiful picture, and create a nostalgic longing.
ReplyDeleteAdrienne, so happy that you get to spend time with your dad this weekend. Enjoy the moments. And thank you for taking my words with you :)
DeleteThanks for the note on my blog - it's funny how what I wrote sounded to you...because it was a good moment to me! It was a moment when the head that logically knows how crazy the guilt is genuinely connected with the heart and I felt like I was living it differently than I usually do. Even though I'd had to pull back for my health, that was all it was. And though the guilt list had been made, it wasn't being taken seriously. I have surely been to some depressing places when sick before ~ so I guess there's still echoes of that coming through. Stay tuned for news from my visit home!
DeleteAdrienne, I am happy to know that your moment came from a good place :)

DeleteWhat it is about nature that evokes such memories? My dad was on my mind this weekend a lot too. I feel your longing but isn't there just that little bit of comfort when you see something and know you appreciate it because of them and they're in a way still so close?
ReplyDeleteYes, Lauren. There is a comfort to that...and I understand your longing as well...it never really goes away.
