Youth

I squandered days,
months,
years.
I squandered youth,
living in my moment of reckless abandon.
I did not treasure it
nor cherish it,
I lived it ,
not questioning the consequence,
not questioning forever.
If I laid down my blunders
like a feast on a table,
would you cut them one by one
with a scalpel and examine their severity?
Would you ravage them like a vulture
does roadkill .
Would you judge ?
or would you celebrate,
 lines blurred ,
coloring outside the lines,
the beauty of risk,
  lessons learned,
wisdom extracted ,
a story of survival,
a story of life.

Stories

Sunflowers in my window,
stretching to the honey colored
sun streaming in.
Mama told me to surround myself
with beautiful things.
I collect stories from strangers,
they look into my eyes
and open their hearts.
I find beauty in them
like broken seashells washed ashore ,
like weeds I believed to be flowers,
when I was a little girl.
I collect stories of beautiful souls,
pain and sorrow.
Sober by truth and inspiration,
I find grace,
I find gratitude.

Our Garden, Our Change

We choose our battles,
our garden filled with
weeds and thorns.
We plant seeds and wait
the branches of our heart
soar higher.
Outside the walls of our mind
we embrace truth.
The streets like old silver
are filled with tarnished dreams.
Let the dreams find the way,
let the soul reach the sky.
We tackle battles in our yard,
our home,
knowing that we can change our demons,
we can transform,
we can evolve.
We can't sweep mistakes,
the way we rake leaves,
but we can wear them,
share them,
like a crown of flowers
from our garden.

Destiny

I found you in a cave
lost and wandering,
I fetched stars from the sky
to light your way.
You were juggling the past
and the present,
you were recycling your dreams.
I peeled away the layers of yesterday,
and soaked your scars in the moonlight.
I asked you to see your reflection
in the ocean,
find your way,
illuminate your soul.
Trust that this is your journey to travel,
believe that you are meant to live,
to love,
to be right here in this moment.

Feed The Soul

If you gave birth to words,
I would make you a garden
to plant them in.
I would water them,
and watch them grow.
If you wrote words on my skin,
I would undress in the ocean,
read them out loud
and let the waves wash
them off my canvas and carry
them away.
If words were your passion,
I would gather them in my pockets
and keep them safe in a locket
by my heart.
I would guard them for you
until you would let them fly
into the universe.
Ink drops written with your blood,
words saturated with
reason and madness,
sorrow and joy,
words that feed the soul.

Relevant

Words orphaned,
discarded,
thrown away.
Words relevant ?
life changing ?
inspiring?
Words celebrated,
words crushed.
Torn between a desire to
improve the world,
acknowledging the smallness of it all .
We are like specks,
like snowflakes melting.
Does our voice count,
does it really matter.
I bathe in the moonlight,
seaweed on my ankles,
shackled by yesterday,
questioning everything.
My happiness salted with sadness,
the fire in my soul burning.
My desire lives,
living my poetry,
day after day,
the words leave me depleted.
The words that once comforted me,
betray me.
I am left weak,
I measure the words and I ask,
do the words really matter ?

Sweet Valentine

My Valentine,
your breath on mine,
sweet escape,
you fill the pages of my heart.
Gentle when you touch my soul,
you shake my spirit with yours.
Valentine,
you are Sunday,
you are the stars on a Key West night,
you are the cathedral of Muir Woods.
Valentine,
will you still love me
when my mermaid hair turns white.
Will you still love me when my eyes
stop shinning like the stars in the evening sky.
Will you still love me when I am frail and weak,
will you love me for all time,
even if I lose my mind,
even if I no longer know your name
and no longer recognize the sound of your voice.
Valentine,
will you be there for me to lean on,
to warm my days with new memories,
to make your laughter my new soundtrack,
will you be my everything,
will you love me for all time.
I know you will.

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you. This is dedicated to my husband, he is my love and my best friend. We are still young and we enjoy our life and love but I have seen some sad  life lessons about life and love. Getting older and some of the sadness involved in that reality. Love takes different shapes. Come and join us here http://dversepoets.com/ where we share our thoughts and our hearts.
