Feed The Soul

If you gave birth to words,
I would make you a garden
to plant them in.
I would water them,
and watch them grow.
If you wrote words on my skin,
I would undress in the ocean,
read them out loud
and let the waves wash
them off my canvas and carry
them away.
If words were your passion,
I would gather them in my pockets
and keep them safe in a locket
by my heart.
I would guard them for you
until you would let them fly
into the universe.
Ink drops written with your blood,
words saturated with
reason and madness,
sorrow and joy,
words that feed the soul.

Relevant

Words orphaned,
discarded,
thrown away.
Words relevant ?
life changing ?
inspiring?
Words celebrated,
words crushed.
Torn between a desire to
improve the world,
acknowledging the smallness of it all .
We are like specks,
like snowflakes melting.
Does our voice count,
does it really matter.
I bathe in the moonlight,
seaweed on my ankles,
shackled by yesterday,
questioning everything.
My happiness salted with sadness,
the fire in my soul burning.
My desire lives,
living my poetry,
day after day,
the words leave me depleted.
The words that once comforted me,
betray me.
I am left weak,
I measure the words and I ask,
do the words really matter ?

Sweet Valentine

My Valentine,
your breath on mine,
sweet escape,
you fill the pages of my heart.
Gentle when you touch my soul,
you shake my spirit with yours.
Valentine,
you are Sunday,
you are the stars on a Key West night,
you are the cathedral of Muir Woods.
Valentine,
will you still love me
when my mermaid hair turns white.
Will you still love me when my eyes
stop shinning like the stars in the evening sky.
Will you still love me when I am frail and weak,
will you love me for all time,
even if I lose my mind,
even if I no longer know your name
and no longer recognize the sound of your voice.
Valentine,
will you be there for me to lean on,
to warm my days with new memories,
to make your laughter my new soundtrack,
will you be my everything,
will you love me for all time.
I know you will.

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you. This is dedicated to my husband, he is my love and my best friend. We are still young and we enjoy our life and love but I have seen some sad  life lessons about life and love. Getting older and some of the sadness involved in that reality. Love takes different shapes. Come and join us here http://dversepoets.com/ where we share our thoughts and our hearts.

Super Bowl XLVII

New Orleans caressed us with
her eyelashes,
inspired us to dream of
things we can't see or touch.
We walked her streets feeling
her charming buildings,
with cast iron balconies,
a melting pot,
a home of great writers,
you can feel the spirits of the past,
in the present.
Colorful people,
colorful beads.
I've had my share of cafe au lait,
with beignets,
at Cafe Du Monde.
I have listened to tales
with my heart open.
New Orleans,
intimate like an old friend,
you visit,
delightful like a new one.
That was years ago,
but never forgotten,
only stored in the attics of my mind
for safekeeping.
Today captures it again,
today,
game day
we wait with anticipation,
sinful foods and drinks and laughter
in the house.
On the field,
festivities unfold,
the Armed Forces Color Guard
presents the flags,
our hearts beat like their drums.
The broadcast takes us to Afghanistan,
true heroes watching with pride.
They sacrifice,
so we can be free,
so we can play this game.
" America the Beautiful"
Sandy Hook Elementary Chorus,
brings us to tears.
The Star Spangled Banner is
sung beautifully on the field.
We are overcome by emotion,
we weep.
Ravens or 49ers,
I have listened to their stories
and their struggles.
The road challenging,
stepping stones,
that brought them here,
there are no losers today.
The highs and lows of today will
forever be imprinted on their hearts.
Today a celebration for
them,
for us.

My Beloved

You traced a heart
on the shower door,
a love letter to me.
The water fell
like the rain did on the roof
of our summer refuge.
I traced my fingers on your skin,
words of love,
poetry I long to give you.
Your wings carry me,
your branches embrace me.
You are my ocean,
you are my home.
Your passion fierce as the wind,
your love tender.
I love your imperfections.
I love the fire in your eyes.
I love your mischief,
always a boy,
yet a strong man.
Five A.M,
we inhale coffee,
our feet tangled together.
Waiting for our day to begin,
a new page to fill.

Happy Birthday Josh

Your eyes shine,
like lanterns in the dark,
illuminating my soul.
The day you were born,
I knew my heart would never be
the same.
My soul sang,
I found home.
I paint the sky,
I reach for the stars,
it's your birthday.
The canvas of our life,
abstract, vibrant with color.
We have grown,
through tears and laughter,
curve-balls and hurdles.
We weathered,
high tides,
low tides,
pulling a red wagon
filled with dreams.
I wish your road is lighter .
I wish your life is filled with wander.
I wish you love,
everyday of your life.
Your eyes humble,
you have not learned
to embrace how great you are.
I knew all along,
your noble heart,
your healing hands,
carry the strength of your spirit.
Your soul dancing,
majestic,
beautiful.
Son, I look into your eyes,
you are the right I have done
in this world.
My love infinite,
swept in awe,
my little baby boy,
you grew into a great man.
Happy birthday, my love.

Dear Joshua, happy 27th birthday. We are so proud of you, even if you are rolling your eyes right now because you don't embrace yet how great you are. We love you with all our heart.

History Unfolds

His head rests on me,
I touch his hair.
He looks at me from the corner of
his eye.
He's wearing his, " I love Bacon " shirt.
We watch the inauguration,
he rolls into a pretzel,
twelve years old and restless.
I want him to witness
this moment in time.
Lives sacrificed so
we can be free.
Mothers, fathers, sisters,
brothers , children,
are present in this crowd,
a sea of humanity,
all anticipating this moment.
Pride within them,
red, white and blue.
He groans, half yawning,
hoping I let him go back to his room.
I hope he takes this in,
it's a part of him,
a part of us.
I tell him he is blessed
and privileged,
to be born under these blue skies,
where he is free.
Where his voice is heard,
where he counts.
America
 I have laid my head
on your chest and I listened to your heartbeat.
America
you brought me to my knees,
poured salt in my wounds and
healed me.
You lifted me,
you embraced me,
you gave me a home.
