Beauty is around me,
underneath the blue sky,
I hold my breath when I
encounter a flying fish.
How glorious he must feel
to leap in the ocean,
and glide in flight over it.
I taste salt on my lips,
how sweet to feel one
with the vastness,
with the glory of it.
The waves awaken us,
it begins with the breath,
this journey of a thousand heartbreaks
and triumphs.
Life dangles on a thin thread
we weave,
and we come undone.
Miraculous visions,
while the storms appear on the horizon.
It begins with the breath
and ends there.
So much beauty can be found at the ocean shore! I've never seen a flying fish, but would definitely enjoy seeing one.
ReplyDeleteReally a beautiful, beautiful poem - so much to savor - especially love the final thought ' It begins with the breath and ends there.'
ReplyDeleteA journey of thousand heartbreaks and triumphs.. how utterly unique is that.. somehow the see contain it all.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, as part of everyday poetics, the photo of your dog always makes me smile! This lovely poem....all our everydays.."begins with the breath and ends there.." What a glorious line, like that flying fish! and how tasting the salt can make you feel one with it all. A wonderful write this is. Hayes Spencer is Kanzensakura
ReplyDeletethe ocean's breath holds so much life... and it is fragile - often just a thin thread....still it holds...
ReplyDeleteMy wife & I are headed for a time by the ocean this weekend, like returning to the Source, glimpsing the human's birthplace, or what's left of it. The trash that rolls in with the tide always saddens & angers me.
ReplyDeleteOh how you make me pine for the ocean and all its textures, The salt in the air on my lips. Peace.
ReplyDeleteP.S. It would be cool if you would put in a link to dVerse Poetics - 'everyday things' at the bottom of your poem.

ReplyDeleteI love the meditative quality your poem--focusing on immediate senses beginning and ending with breath.
ReplyDeleteLovely phylosophical/spiritual thoughts. I sometimes become afraid of the vastness of the ocean, when I recognize how big and small I am. Lovely writing Ayala.
ReplyDeleteLovely thoughts..
ReplyDeleteFrom "the waves awaken..." on down is the best part for me--the way life dangles on a thin thread. WOW.

Can sure be found if we care to look, much can be found upon the ocean too
ReplyDeleteBoth of our poems contain glory, breath, to feel one and more. I loved this read. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many elements I like about this poem: especially this passage:
ReplyDeletethis journey of a thousand heartbreaks
and triumphs.
Life dangles on a thin thread
we weave,
and we come undone.
Beautiful! All of it!
This is beautiful. It brought back memories of being on a catamaran in Hawaii last year and seeing flying fish for the first time in my life. They are amazing. Peace, Linda
ReplyDeleteI love the quiet rhythm in your poem, Ayala. The line "Life dangles on a thin thread we weave, and we come undone," particularly resonated with me. Thank you.
