My leaves Emerald green,
my branches open like wings,
my roots deep and solid.
Take a seat and rest in my imagination,
bathe in a kaleidoscope of color
and winding roads.
Yesterday I was chained to the past,
imprisoned by memories of long ago.
Today I embrace blue skies,
delight in the day,
savor the moments.

the power of now. the mind wants us to live in the past or future, steeped in worry. the body wants nothing more than to simply live right now. so nicely put.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ed. No easy task :)
DeleteThe best way to start the day and a new journey ~
ReplyDeleteThank you, Grace.

Well, if this isn't the secret of a happy life, I don't know what is. So easy to remain chained to the past.
ReplyDeleteVictoria...how true we are chained to the past...so hard to let go... :)
Deletethat is the perfect pic for this...and what a message it is as well...the past has such strong grip and will def rob us of the now...

DeleteHello Ayala,
ReplyDeleteYour blog title intrigued me and I greatly admire what I've read so far. Beautiful use of minimal words to share who you are.
I'm more of a narrative writer than a poet in recent years, but I appreciate good writing. Several of your poems touched me, reminded me, and lifted my heart this morning.
Thank you!
Hi Sandi,
DeleteThank you. I appreciate your kind words. I am happy my poems lifted your heart. I hope that you continue to be lifted by my words. I am honored.
To me, Ayala...this is what life IS. Question: What is life?
ReplyDeleteAnswer:
"Yesterday I was chained to the past,
imprisoned by memories of long ago.
Today I embrace blue skies,
delight in the day,
savor the moments."
About growth, change, from Yesterday to Today! All that is left to the inquisitive...is what happened? Well, I go back to your first four lines!
Positively beautiful rendering of "LIFE IS BIG!"
Thanks.
PEACE!
Thank you, Steve. Life is big, isn't it? So much has happened from my yesterdays to where my life is today. I choose to embrace it with gratitude. :)
ReplyDeletePeace to you my friend.
Very affirming words, Ayala. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Belinda. I wish you a safe and wonderful trip. You always inspire me with your words.
DeleteLove the uplifting message, Ayala. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rudri. :)

DeleteThat's BEAUTIFUL, Ayala. I too know what it's like to see the green and open my heart to all the good stuff that's going on -- what a feeling.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Thank you, Jannie. I wish I could bottle the feeling...I know that you are familiar with this feeling...since your heart is always open.

So don't like it when those chains grab hold...we tug and tug and wrestle...but opening our eyes and hearts to the day and breathing it in will often just help them fall away. This is so touching!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Adrienne.xo
DeleteHello Ayala --
ReplyDeleteThis post is rather old so I hope you are still watching for comments on it... I've used the photo at the top to head up a recent post at my own site; that post is one of a long series of Friday posts constructed entirely of excerpts/quotations built around a (sometimes mysterious) theme of the week.
I much, much prefer -- whenever possible -- to credit the writers, poets, filmmakers, comedians, artists, and photographers whose work I'm using. For the perfect photo of the perfect subject which appears here at the top of your own post, though, I've got nothing. I don't know where the sculpture is or who created it -- anything about it -- and I don't know who took the picture. I've searched the Web in vain for other photos of it.
Can you help me out with it?
Thank you so much for any assistance you can give... and for this lovely bit of poetry as well!
P.S. I've subscribed to the comments feed on this post, so if you prefer you can just reply in a comment rather than email. Either sort of response gratefully accepted. :)
Hi,
DeleteThis photo was taken by me in San Francisco at the art museum. I am sorry but I don't remember the name of the artist. I am glad that you enjoyed it and I hope this helps you.
Best wishes,
Ayala.
