Ten Years

September morning,
strong, dark cappuccino sipped
in fragile cups.
Good Morning America on the television,
our newborn slept soundly,
our high school age son was sleeping too.
Then in an instant,
nothing felt the same.
Shattered lives,
shattered dreams,
images branded in our mind.
Hollow sadness, despair, tears flowing.
Ten years later,
our thoughts laced together,
endless conversations,
about this moment.
A moment of sacrifice ,
a moment of pride,
a moment of to unite us all.

A poem I wrote in May that my friend Leslie said I should re-post for the anniversary of 9/11. Thank you, Leslie.

  2. In an instant...how true. As I think about how far we've come in ten years, how rich these years have been, it's even more poignant to think of the 10 years times thousands of lives that were lost to those who died that day and their friends and family.

  3. I was watching GMA, too.

I've avoided this subject like the plague. It brings up such strong, evocative emotions in me. Non the less, this poem is poignant in every single way.

  7. Some moments never leave us.... that is certainly one of them. I remember exactly where I was, exactly what I was doing, I even remember that the swamp cooler in the desert home we were living in at the time was on and running. I can even still sense the smell that was in that desert air that day. It never goes away. And it never should... Thank you........

  8. Incredibly difficult time for the whole of our civilisation actually. I have a poem on the 'death' of bin Laden and the inside job it was. It's horrendous.

    Great poem Ayala

  16. I felt twinges of patriotism on those first few days following, not an easy emotion for me.
